π MEDICARE IMPORTANT DATES β SAVE THIS POST!
Medicare has several important enrollment periods, and knowing the right dates can help you avoid missed opportunities, coverage gaps, or potential late-enrollment penalties.

This is generally your first opportunity to enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B.
π Your exact dates depend on your birth month.

This is the big one! During this period, Medicare beneficiaries can:
βοΈ Join, switch, or drop a Medicare Advantage plan
βοΈ Join, switch, or drop a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan
βοΈ Switch between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage
π Changes made during this period generally take effect January 1 of the following year.
January 1 β March 31
If you’re already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, you can:

βοΈ Return to Original Medicare
βοΈ Add a standalone Part D plan if you return to Original Medicare
Your change generally takes effect the first day of the month after the plan receives your request.

If you missed your Initial Enrollment Period and don’t qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, you may be able to enroll in Medicare Part A and/or Part B during this period.
Coverage generally begins the month after you sign up, and a late-enrollment penalty may apply.
Certain life events can give you a special opportunity to enroll or change coverage.
Examples include:
π Moving
πΌ Losing employer coverage
π¨βπΌ Retiring
π₯ Changes in Medicaid eligibility
π Qualifying for Extra Help
π Other qualifying circumstances
The timing and options depend on the specific event.
Your one-time 6-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period generally begins when you’re 65 or older AND enrolled in Medicare Part B.
This period provides important protections when purchasing a Medicare Supplement policy.
If you’re already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan, your plan sends an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) each fall, generally in September.
π¬ Review it carefully because it explains changes to your plan’s costs and coverage for the upcoming year.
