We have spoken to many consumers over the years who were shopping online for insurance coverage. We have concluded that most consumers are getting the impression that their quote or plan covers EVERYTHING 100%. When we congratulate those consumers for obtaining insurance coverage and asking them what type of plan they went with or what company, they usually respond with “they told me everything was covered so I am satisfied” or “ I don’t have any co-pays or deductibles so I’m covered”.

This is becoming a huge misconception with a lot of consumers in thinking that the plan they have chosen will cover EVERYTHING with no out of pocket expenses. Employer Coverage is typically the best coverage you can get and even those plans have out of pocket expenses like co-pays, deductibles and co-insurance. It is almost impossible for an insurance company to charge you a monthly premium and all your medical expenses be covered. Whether you purchase a plan through the Marketplace, a short-term medical plan or a fixed indemnity plan, they all have their out of pocket expenses that the consumer is responsible for.

Unfortunately, these consumers get a salesperson on the phone and they provide them with an attractive price and on top of that, when the consumer asks a question like “is my wellness covered?”  or “are my office visits covered?” they are being told, “Yes, It Is Covered” or “Absolutely you have coverage”. These responses don’t really provide the consumer with a direct answer to their questions. A consumer should be asking HOW is it covered or what will I pay out of my pocket? If the consumer approaches these salespeople in this way, you will probably get the truth or a very shaky sales response that will have you questioning the plan.

Remember, there are no insurance plans out there that cover EVERYTHING 100% with no out of pocket expenses. So, when a salesperson tells you that all your medical expenses are covered with no deductibles and no co-pays, make sure to get EVERYTHING in writing to confirm what they have told you over the phone. We always remind our clients that what you are told over the phone doesn’t hold as much weight as what you see in writing. Make sure you get the benefits you were described over the phone in writing. If you remember these tips, this will help you purchase the right coverage and prevent you from having huge medical expenses you weren’t expecting. Here at Next Level Benefits, we will make sure you understand what you plan covers and what you have to pay out of pocket. Gives us a call and let us work for you.
